I say it every year, Autumn is my favourite season. I love the colours and, although it’s sunny outside, you still need to layer up. But what I love most is the food. So many different types of fruit and vegetables are in season that we’re spoilt for choice.
We can really celebrate the autumn and it’s a great resource for making your wedding stand out. Today, I’m looking at autumn cocktails you can serve your guests when they arrive at your reception venue.
Apple Cider Mimosa
This is a perfect celebratory autumn cocktail and it’s stupidly easy. Mix one bottle of champagne, although I’m sure any sparkling wine will do, with a cup of apple cider. Wet the rim of your champagne flutes then roll them in a mix of 2tbsp sugar and 1tbsp cinnamon. Fill your glasses with the champagne cider and serve. Simple and delicious.
Whiskey Mulled Cider
For something stronger, and warmer, this may be the drink for you and it is as easy as the mimosa. Fill a glass with warm apple cider and add a shot of whiskey, then garnish with a cinnamon stick and a slice of lemon.
Caramel Apple Mule
If you have a sweet tooth then a short of vodka with a 2/3 shot of apple cider, 1/3 shot of caramel syrup mixed together will satisfy your needs and it’s easy. Easy cocktails are the best because you can replicate them yourself to recapture the moment later.
They say that knowledge is knowing a tomato is actually a fruit, but wisdom is never putting a tomato in a fruit cocktail. The same can be said for pumpkins, just in reverse. Pumpkins are vegetables but they are so sweet you can stick them in puddings or cocktails for a heavenly autumn flavour. Add 2oz of vanilla vodka to 1/2 oz of cream liqueur and 1/2 oz of pumpkin liqueur. Sprinkle with cinnamon for some added depth and you’re sorted.
A twist on this much-loved cocktail is to use pear gin. Add 1oz of pear gin to 4oz of champagne then a dash of simple syrup and lemon juice and pour over lots of ice. Pear gin will add a refreshing taste, modernising this classic.
These five cocktails are really simple to make, so easy to make for larger numbers, and will set the right autumnal feel for your wedding. You can also provide options by swapping sparkling wine with non-alcoholic alternatives with apple, pear or pumpkin syrups.
