Just because we are in lockdown, doesn’t mean the world has ended. Lots of things are on hold, postponed until a more normal time, but not your relationship which means people are still getting engaged. If that’s you, then congratulations. We all need good news like that to keep us sane and upbeat in this strange world we’re all living in. And there is so much you can do towards wedding planning during lockdown, even though we’re all staying at home.
The first thing is to agree with your partner a budget for your big day. This is more important than ever with some workers being furloughed now. As much as you might want a huge celebration, as much as we might need it, if it puts you in debt for the rest of your married life, you could be making things harder in the long run.
Type of Wedding
What sort of wedding do you want? A big one with everyone you have ever known in attendance, or small and intimate with the people who really matter? Working this out will help identify your budget, so these two really go hand in hand.
Bridesmaids and Groomsmen
You probably already know who you want for these roles, and yes you can wait until the social distancing has passed before asking them, or you can give them some good news now while they need it most. You can always plan a meal to celebrate their agreement later.
It’s the same for your guests. You now have time to work out who you want and can send them a Save the Date before your proper invitations.
You can still look at venues even though you can’t physically see them. If you know what you want from a venue, a stunning outdoor space like the grounds at Capesthorne shown above, large disco floor for the evening, then you can start to narrow down your choices.
Most venues have brochures for request, electronic as well as physical, so you don’t have to wait to get it. To get ours, just filled out the form at the bottom of this page. They will also have picture galleries. You can get a real feel for the place without leaving your sofa.
You can also book your wedding if you’re confident enough. Booked weddings might be postponed now, but if you pick a date far enough in the future, then this should all just be a bad memory by the time your wedding comes around and not effect it.
And once you have a date, know what type of wedding you want and a good idea of numbers, then look for suppliers. You can adopt the same principal looking for suppliers as you did for your venue, or you can ask your venue if they have a list of preferred suppliers to help organise everything. Ours is here.
And while you’re looking forward to your big day, you can also look towards your new life as a married couple, including what gifts you want. Honeymoon vouchers, items to build your home with or donations to a charitable cause are all options available to couples now. There’s no right or wrong answer, just what works for you.
And don’t forget to enjoy this time. Your wedding is a cause for celebration and hope, a future to look forward to. It’s okay to be excited about it because if you’re enjoying planning it, your guests are bound to have a great time.
