Wedding Boutiques Reopen

Finally, after over ten weeks, non-essential shops are starting to get back to business, and that means wedding boutiques will reopen. For me, this is fantastic news because it means we’re on the road to some normality.

While it is great news that you’ll be able to start, or continue, your hunt for the perfect wedding dress, things won’t be the same as they were before Covid-19. So, here are some things for you to consider before you go.

Preparation

This is key. Just as all other shops are reducing the number of people in them, wedding boutiques will be doing the same. This will probably mean a reduced number of appointments to make sure they can clean in between customers.

To get the most out of your appointment, research the styles and designers you like to make sure you’re going to the right stockist. You’ll be really frustrated if you get to your appointment only to find they don’t have the designer you want.

It’s also likely you won’t be able to browse as much as before. This will be to make sure you come into contact with as little as possible. I know this might rob some of the romance from the whole thing, but everyone’s safety is paramount.

Book in advance

Absolutely, you must book in advance. As I’ve already said, there will be fewer appointments to allow for deep cleans in between so it is crucial you have a slot. Walk-ins will not be allowed.

Sticking to those times slots will be crucial to reduce the risk not just for yourself but also for the people working at the boutique and other brides-to-be.

This is a good time to ask any questions you have, so you’re fully prepared for the day.

Cut that entourage

It’s reasonable to assume you will be allowed one other person, but parties bigger than that may not be allowed.

If you want other people there then use Zoom or Teams or Facebook Messenger or one of the many other virtual meeting rooms available. That way you can still have all the meaningful women there without any of the risk.

I strongly recommend checking with your boutique first when you book your appointment to avoid disappointment on the day.

A radical choice might be to take your partner with you. To reduce contact with the staff at the boutique, your guest may have to help you get in and out of the dress. If you’ve been socially distancing with your partner, you might feel safer with them over a friend or sister from another household.

And should you use your partner, then make sure they’re not around when you tell the boutique which is the one, so it is still a surprise for them on the day.

Be Truthful

If you don’t feel well, then please, please, be considerate and rearrange your appointment. I know how excited you must be, but it’s not worth taking the risk.

If you potentially have the virus, by keeping your appointment you could be infecting the boutique’s staff and possibly any other bride-to-be who comes after you. No wedding dress is worth that and the boutique will thank you for your honesty.

PPE

It’s reasonable to expect the staff might have PPE such as face masks, gloves and aprons to reduce contact. While this might be strange, it’s for everyone’s safety and something you must accept if you can’t wait any longer to start searching for your dress.

Its likely they’ll also have sanitation points with hand gel and you may be asked to wear gloves yourself or wash your hands after every contact with a dress.

You may want to take your own PPE and hand gel if you have them.

Patience

And whatever else you do, please be patient with the staff. They might be working on a reduced number for safety reasons which could mean service is slower. I don’t think this is a big deal because they are there to help you, and keeping everyone healthy is at the forefront of everyone’s minds.

If you don’t find the right dress during this appointment, you can always make another one and with each appointment you’ll get closer to your dream dress.

If you need help in finding a dress, we recommend a local company called Adeava Bridal. Debbie and her team have a collection of stunning dresses to suit all brides.
