Autumn Wedding Cakes
Even though it’s only September, it already feels like autumn is just around the corner. There’s a crispness in the air we only get at this time of year, the sun isn’t as warm and the trees are starting to change colour. But that’s OK because autumn is my favourite season. I love the colours, the food and the excuse to wear an extra layer, and at the moment I’m thinking about cake, so this week I’m looking at new inspiration for autumn wedding cakes.
Flavours
There are some flavours you can only have in the autumn, it’s the law. OK, I may have made that bit up, but there aren’t many times in the year when spiced pumpkin is appropriate. It’s a delicious flavour and pumpkins are ripe at this time of year.
Other seasonal fruit flavours include apple, pear and blackberry. They’re all available right now, so your impact on the environment is less than if you were having traditional summer fruits imported. They also work well with alcohol, such as rum and pear, giving you the option for an adult only tier in your cake.
Spices are your friend when it comes to creating a warming cake. Cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg are perfect on their own or combined together, and for something a little different, maple frosting or filling will give you an extra sweet dimension to your cake.
All these flavours work perfectly with more standard flavours like chocolate or vanilla, giving you scope to play with the flavours you use on each tier for an exciting taste experience.
Colours
If you’re having an autumn wedding, then using autumnal colours in your theme is easy and full of impact. Capesthorne Hall is the perfect venue for autumn weddings in Cheshire because all our trees and bushes become a blend of browns, reds, yellows and gold, decorating the outside of the venue to match your scheme.
Cakes using these colours also make a powerful statement because they are bold, opulent colours. No one is going to miss your cake and you won’t want to cut into it. The contrast of colours will give your guests a feast for the eye before they’ve even tasted it.
