Caring for Number One

Getting married is one of the most stressful things you can do, along with moving house or changing jobs. With that in mind, while you’re organising flowers and creating seating plans and having dress fittings, you have to find space for your own mental health. After all, you don’t want to spend your wedding day a nervous wreck.

To take the romance out of wedding planning for a minute, you’re actually project managing to a definite end date. Start at the end date and work forwards to set your timescales and don’t forget to add some flexi-time for things that may go wrong. Obviously, we hope they don’t, but let’s plan it in anyway.

I’ve mentioned this before because I’m a strong believer in delegation. The people you love will want to help you on your wedding day. Give them tasks and trust them to get on with it. They can be as big or as small as your project management style allows, the key thing is to do it and agree times for updates.

Preferred Suppliers

Trying to choose a supplier for the different elements of your big day can be a monumental task. Personally, I worry something will go wrong because of a supplier I’ve chosen. A way to combat that is to use your venue’s preferred suppliers. Here at Capesthorne Hall we have a list of suppliers we’ve worked with in the past who cover everything to make your wedding day perfect.

Reach out

The most important thing for our mental health is not to bottle it up. You may have even reprimanded a friend for going through something and not reaching out to you for help. I know I have. Don’t be that person. If there’s something keeping you up at night, tell someone. Sometimes just saying something out loud makes it better and other times your friend or family member might have a solution you hadn’t thought of yourself.

Time Out

It’s easy enough to get swamped with work and home life without adding wedding planning to the mix. You may feel you don’t have time to do anything else, but you must. Make time for breaks from work and weddings to do your other hobbies, whatever they are. This includes your wedding as a topic of conversation. Do not become a one-topic bore. Your brain will thank you for the rest.
