Pantone Colour of 2021

Each year, the Pantone Color Institute reveals their colour of the year, which heavily influences the palettes used in media, business and fashion. It’s a great colour for brides to be aware of so they can co-ordinate their wedding with the most on-trend designs.

This year, unusually, they have taken the decision to release two colours for 2021, Ultimate Gray (Pantone 17-5104) and Illuminating (Pantone 13-0647).

At first glance, these colours may not seem like a natural blend; however, they are a unique combination of hope and fortification, exactly what we need as we move forward into 2021.

2020 has been a year unlike any other, and it has taught us to develop inner strength, to support one another, and be resilient in the face of uncertainty. Ultimate Gray is a solid colour to build on, reliable and ever-lasting.

But we also need hope going forward. We need to know there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and Illuminating is the uplifting colour that promises an end to the uncertainty. In the words of Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute;

“The union of an enduring Ultimate Gray with the vibrant yellow Illuminating expresses a mess of positivity supported by fortitude. Practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a colour combination that gives use resilience and hope. We need to feel encouraged and uplifted; this is essential to the human spirit.”

These are both great colours for a wedding. You can combine the colours for your invitations with a solid grey base, and yellow or gold writing, as most stationers will use the colours you want.

You can use yellow flowers for your bouquet with silvery grey foliage instead of green, mix and match tableware, and even tie your favours with double ribbon. The overall effect will be modern and chic for a forward-facing couple.
