Table Names

When you’re getting married, you could be forgiven for thinking that once you’ve organised your ceremony and breakfast venue, it’s a case of organising your dress, flowers and cake. Unfortunately, this is wrong. There are loads of things to think about and your wedding breakfast table names is one of them.

Now, this may or may not be a big deal for you. It’s a personal thing and there’s no law that says you have to do anything other than label them numerically. I didn’t do anything special, however, I have been to weddings where they have and I’ve always enjoyed the stories behind them.

Locations

When my friend got married a few years ago, she used train station names for the table. The newly married couple had been in a long-distance relationship while they were at different universities and, being poor students, had used trains rather than cars to visit each other at the weekends. Each train station was one they stopped at on their regular journey to see each other.

If you and your partner have travelled regularly to see each other, you can do the same whether its towns you passed through or motorway junctions. Without you making that journey it’s possible you wouldn’t be getting married.

Other location ideas are places you’ve been to on holiday together or destinations on your honeymoon if you’re touring rather than staying in one place.

Films

Remember, naming your tables can be all about your journey to your wedding day. Using your favourite movies, or even the ones you hate that your partner loves and vice versa, is a great way to tell people about your journey. If I had my time again, my favourite zombie movies would be a strong contender.

Shared Passions

You don’t have to use movies, you can use anything you’ve enjoyed together or sparks debate between you. You can use books, songs, artists, cakes, even computer games. A good table name will start a conversation and there’s nothing your guests will appreciate more than a decent conversation starter.

Flowers

Depending on how many different types you use, you could name each table after a flower used in your decoration. For natural, or boho weddings, taking inspiration from nature whether it’s your bouquet or your favourite trees is a great idea.

Charity

When my cousin got married, the couple donated the money allocated for favours to charities and each table was named after what the money was spent on. I was on the Goat table because the money from our table bought a goat for a village.

Sports

Maybe you and your partner bonded over a love of football, cricket or Formula One. Tables can be named after players or important wins. If you’re runners or tri-athletes then you can use the events you’ve taken part in.
