Ultimate Photo List

When you sit down with your photographer to finalise the pictures you want from your day, it’s best to go prepared. Here is a list of the types of pictures you might want, broken down over the different stages of the day to give you the ultimate photo list.

The preparation for your wedding is as important as the wedding itself. It’s your last moment as a single woman and there will be lots of laughs as well as tender moments. These are some of the shots you should have from this stage:

Your dress on its hanger

Your dress with the bridesmaid dresses

Your flowers

Putting your dress on

Getting your make-up and hair done

You relaxed with your bridesmaids

You with your parents

You with the person giving you away

And don’t forget the groom. Each of these shots can be replicated with him and his bestman and ushers.

Whether by car or horse-drawn carriage, your journey to the ceremony will be memorable. Having these pictures will always keep the memories fresh:

The car or carriage empty

Getting in to the car

Arriving at the venue

You and the people accompanying you

Getting out of the car

I think it’s important to get some pictures of the ceremony venue before the start. Consider asking for pictures of:

The venue

Any decorations you have brought in

The rings

The order of service

The groom and best man greeting the guests

During the ceremony might be a bit trickier, some churches don’t like photographs being taken in the middle of the ceremony so check first. If there’s no problem, you’ll definitely want these pictures:

Going down the aisle

Saying your vows

The ring exchanges

Your first kiss

Signing of the register

Leaving as a married couple

After the ceremony

You and your husband getting into the car

Leaving the ceremony

You and your husband sharing a glass of something bubbly in the back

Arriving at your reception.

Reception Venue

When choosing the location for your reception, it’s appearance is an important factor, don’t neglect it on the day. Get pictures of:

The top table

The guest tables

Wedding favours and place settings

The cake

Chair dressings

Any entertainment you’ve laid on for your guests during the lull in activity

Family shots

Now it’s time for the expected pictures at the venue with you and your guests. On top of pictures of you and the groom at beautiful spots around the venue, you may want some of the traditional group shots of you and your groom with family and friends.

Your / the groom’s immediate family

Your / the groom’s extended family

Your / the groom’s friends

The whole wedding party

Wedding Breakfast

Just because people are sitting down there is no excuse for you not to have pictures.

Your breakfast arrival

The speeches

Cutting of the cake

Throwing the bouquet

By this point, you should have hundreds of pictures of the guests you invited to your ceremony and breakfast. Make sure to ask for photo’s of as many of your evening guests as you can.

Your first dance

Your first dance with you father

DJ or band

The evening buffet

Guests dancing

You and your husband leaving the party

All these ideas coupled with your photographer’s skill, and you will have so many perfect pictures you’ll struggle to choose from them!
