Romantic UK Minimoon Ideas
With travel restrictions still getting in the way of many potential honeymoon plans, many couples are postponing their honeymoon holidays abroad, and choosing to have a “mini-moon” in the UK this year.
There are so many beautiful romantic spots within the UK to spend a few days relaxing after your wedding, I have decided to highlight some of the fabulous places you may choose to visit.
Edinburgh
The Scottish capital has so much to offer… wonderful views, many important historical landmarks, great theatres, museums and fabulous restaurants.
It is also famously the birthplace of the Harry Potter novels, and provided inspiration for many of the storylines!
A visit to the castle is a must, take a guided tour and learn about the incredible history of this famous landmark, take in the views across the city and over to the Firth of Fourth.
Strolling down the Royal Mile is an experience in itself, with many street artists and musicians to entertain you, leading eventually to the Queens Edinburgh residence – the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
Take a romantic stroll along Princes Street in the early evening as the sun is setting behind the castle, before heading off for dinner in one of the many top restaurants.
With stunning mountains, lakes, and beautiful rolling hills the Lake District has to be high up on the list for your post wedding getaway.
If you are into walking and hiking there are trails suitable for all levels including England s tallest mountain Scafell Pike.
If you prefer a more gentle stroll there are many beautiful lakes and villages to explore, a highlight would be to take a boat trip across lake Windemere, the largest of the lakes in the National Park.
Enjoy a picnic by the lake, then return to your hotel for a romantic dinner for two.
Bath
The beautiful town of Bath with over 2000 years of history is a perfect getaway for wedding couples.
A must see destination is the Roman Baths and pump house built by the Romans around an ancient hot spring. Spectacularly preserved, it is largely unchanged since the first visitors came to sample it’s therapeutic waters.
Make sure to visit the modern equivalent, the Thermae Bath Spa, located around the corner, where you can enjoy these same warm waters.
You can book a special couples package; including a massage for two, followed by a meal served afterwards.
York
Located in North Yorkshire a visit to this medieval city feels almost as if you are stepping back in time.
It boasts one of the largest Cathedrals in Northern Europe, the spectacular York Minster.
The Shambles, with its overhanging timber framed roofs and traditional shopfronts has to be one of the most picturesque streets in the country.
York, then known as Jorvik, was once the Viking capital of England.
The Jorvik centre is a must see visitor attraction where you can visit a reconstruction of a Viking village complete with sounds and smells!
